VMs with Delta Disks Cannot be Protected

VMs with Delta Disks Cannot be Protected

This article applies to all JSDR software versions.

Issue

If a VM to be protected does not have any snapshots, but delta disks for it exist (e.g., a VM snapshot was successfully removed but its disk consolidation failed), attempting to protect the VM may initially appear to work, but the protection task will eventually fail.

Cause

This is a technical limitation of the system. Your DR protection strategy should be designed to avoid conditions where this issue will be problematic.

If the delta disks can be consolidated, then it will be possible to successfully protect the VM.
