Issue

This is an example of replication being cancelled for a protected VM.

Cause

This issue can occur if a snapshot revert happens on a protected VM.

  • Reverting to a snapshot of a protected VM will result in protection being cancelled. This condition is indicated in the user interface, as shown below:

  • The storage policy will not be automatically detached, requiring the user to manually delete old snapshots and remove the cancelled protection (which can be done through the user interface).

  • If a snapshot already exists, it will not be possible to "un-protect" the VM.

  • In such case, it will be necessary to:

    1. Manually delete the old snapshot.

    2. Un-protect the VM.

    3. Re-protect the VM.

  • The VM should now be able to resume protection.

Note: This is KB is applicable in 4.1.x and below. From 4.2 version onwards snapshot revert doesn’t result in replication being cancelled.
