🤔 Problem

This alert indicates that the space reserved for replication logs in DRVA is becoming insufficient, which may impact replication processes and VM protection. This article guides addressing the "JetStream DR: Replication Log's Reserved Space is running low" alert in VMware vCenter. This will lead to replication issues and BG could accumulate.

...

💡 Cause

  1. The alert is triggered when the reserved space for replication logs approaches its set threshold value.
Resize will not happen automatically for reserved space, considering no free space.

  2. Inadequate initial allocation of RL volume. The recommended RL calculation formula is not used while creating the RLV.

  3. Protected Domain size is high, where assigned RL is not configured based on recomendations

  4. Failed to replicate the data to Objstore for an extended duration due to an underlying network issue.

🌱 Solution

  1. Ensure the RL is created based on the Jetstream recomendations.

  2. Each domain created will auto-allocate Metadata Size on RLV, ensure the appropriate RL is selected.

  3. Keep track of the replication log space usage when new VM’s or Domains are created. It's advisable to recalculate the RL size or use Capacity Planing Tool recomendations.

  4. If RLV has enough free space increase the Reserved space. Select the DRVA under Appliance → Select the RLV → select the Reserved Space → Configured Reserve Space Size.

...

  1. RL volume size can be increased by right-clicking the DRVA VM → increase the desired RL disk (VMDK) size and reboot the DRVA for the changes to be effective.

  2. Once the RL is grown increase the reserved space as in Step 4.
